Top 5 Body Weight Workouts

Body weight workouts are incredibly effective for both muscle building and fat loss.

They are also perfect exercises for most interval training programs. To do these you have to combine both power and endurance into one movement.

I put together the top 5 body weight workouts for you to check out. These workouts can actually be done in one interval or can be added to any muscle building program. If you are not doing these body weight workouts you are missing out on incredibly effective exercise.

Bodyweight Squat
Much like the regular squat the bodyweight squat is a real effective exercise. The main difference is with the body weight version you will be doing very high reps. It is often very normal to do 25-30 of these exercises in one set. Now tell me your legs won’t be screaming after a couple sets of these.

Dips
Dips are awesome for the entire upper body but they focus on the triceps and the chest. There are a few different ways to do dips, but they all follow generally the same motion. Bending at the elbow and then pushing back up to make the arm straight. If you are doing hanging dips (ones where your feet hang below you) it is a bit harder and more of a muscle building activity then the more common type when your feet are supported in front of your body. Push up
I don’t have any real data on this, but I have a feeling that the push up is the most used exercise ever. I mean if you have never heard of a push up you must be living under a somewhere. Everyone from the military to sports teams uses the push up to train their people. Guess what, they do it because Push ups are incredibly effective but can also be done very quickly and in a large number of reps. Try different hand positions to focus on different parts of the body, or if you’re up for a real challenge try the clap pushup.

Burpee Jumps
The burpee jump is probably the most “total body” exercise of the top 5 body weight workouts it is also the most cardio intense (actually for the same reason). This is what makes the burpee so effective in interval training programs. It is not as well known as some of the other top 5 so if you don’t know much about the burpee jump, here is a video for you to check out.

Pull-ups
If the burpee is the most cardio intense workout then I believe pull-ups are the most muscle intense of the top 5 body weight workouts. There are a couple different ways to do pull-ups the most common are the reverse grip pullup which is the one most people associate with bicep muscles, and the wide grip pull-ups which I am going to call the king of the body weight workouts. I think that these are the toughest exercise on the list and are a great way to really build a great figure.

There you have the top 5. Do you agree? Disagree?
