Lower Back & Spine Relief

by Eleanor
(Ontario, Canada)

I am going to discuss our lower backs. Many people actually wonder where it starts and ends.

We need to know, approximately, but let us not get picky. The exercise or posture that I am going to explain will alleviate some stress and strain on the lower back. As you are doing this posutre I would encourage you to pay attention to how you feel as you are entering into and exiting out of the posture. When we stand for a length of time for whatever reasons, work, recreation, etc we are compacted at our middle. Our hip, pelvic girdle, top of our bum area. If we sit for any length of time, again for whatever reasons we compact into this area.

Envision your spine with the individual vertebrae and the cushy or for some no so cushy padding in between the discs. As our day progresses that structure settles. Now we are going to give our body a break. Just as we need our space sometimes to feel better, your spine needs the same. Take the back of a chair, your kitchen counter, whatever is around waist height. Put both hands on with them shoulder width apart, now move your feet back as you lower your torso. When you are in position you will look like a 90 degree angle. Put your head between your arms, but NOT below your arms, that would hurt your shoulders. So listen to your body, if that is a feeling you are getting, back up and don't go that low. Now that you are there I want you to tweek it a bit more. Now you are going to push your bum further away from you as this happens I want you to notice if you are breathing. That may sound foolish but we have a tendency to hold our breath. Now breath and you will feel a release. You will feel the back of your legs (hamstrings), stretch, your shoulders and relax your neck. Now pay attention to your wonderful spine. How you have taken all those closed spaces and opened them up. What a wonderful feeling.

Now for the first attempt don't stay too long. Very important to return properly. Walk your feet towards your chair, counter, whatever as you begin lifting your torse. Make sure your head is the last this to rise. Now there are usually few feelings. One could be absolute release and one a little stiff. This will be because you have never done anything to treat your lowere back and even this is extreme for you. Now you should try this a few times a day for small lengths of time.
Believe me you take care of your spind which is connected to your lower back and you will be amazed at how it repays you for being so good to it.

Remember take care of your body and it will take care of you.
