Nutrition Information :
Food Composition

Ever wonder what all the diet gurus are talking about when they discuss the your food composition? The nutrition information you are looking for can be confusing if you don’t have the general understanding of the basic blocks that make up all our food (good or bad). Below we discuss the meaning of Protein, Carbohydrates and Fats. Next time you hear someone say “whats your carb to protein ratio?” you can understand what their talking about when you tell them they forgot an important building block for the human body (fats).

Protein aka. Mr Popular

Protein is probably the most popular of these building blocks. There is good reason for this, it is an extremely important part of all diet plans. Everyone knows someone that is on a protein diet or is taking protein supplements after their workouts. Your body needs protein, and lots of it. It is the building block of muscle.

Protein is also the stuff that makes your hair and nails grow, along with countless other benefits in the body. But the one that everyone focuses on is the muscle building. It is true, your most important meal of the day is your post workout meal and that meal should have a bunch of protein. But it should also have a good amount of carbs and fats as well. Click here to check out some great protein supplements.

Another good tool to know is that protein is measured by the gram and 1 gram of protein is equal to 4 calories. So, if you are eating something that has 20 grams of protein in it, that means that whatever you are eating is at least 80 calories.

Carbohydrates aka. Carbs

Carbs is another of the three main elements that make up calories (or what we are calling our food composition). Carbs are by far the most confusing for people creating diet plans. Everyday people struggling with dieting plans are told not to eat these. Please remember this is not the answer, this will not be a longlasting solution. Instead it will start you on the rollercoaster ride of dieting.

Carbs are in almost everything, but don’t worry they are an essential part of the human diet. They are the building block that gives you energy. While saying this, there are carbs that are really bad for you. Some of these food elements should be removed from your daily lifestyle. I know what your saying, but they taste so good. Need some help with this check out these foods that boost your metabolism. They have carbs in them as well.

Just like protein, 1 gram of carbs is equal to 4 calories. So, if you were eating something that had 25 grams of protein and 5 grams of carbs, you just ate at least 120 calories.

Fats aka. The Unknown

Like Carbs, Fat is very underappreciated and in a lot of cases people try not to eat it. People think that eating fat makes you fat. This is really false. There are actually a lot of good fats that actually help boost your metabolism.

Fats are broken down into two categories. To keep it simple, we will call them good fats and bad fats. Click here to check out a more detailed article of Good Vs Bad Fats. Unlike protein and carbs, 1 gram of fat has 9 calories in it. So if you eat something that has 10 grams of fat in it, you just ate at least 90 calories. This is why high protein foods are usually low in calories, and food that is high in fat is high in calories. It also may explain why people think that eating fat makes them fat.

By trying to rid your diet of fat, by eating fat free foods what you are actually doing is replacing calories from fat with other calories. But your body actually needs the good fats to maintain some of the really important body functions. Also, generally foods that are fat free have other things replacing the fat that is genetically modified and will do much more harm than good in your body.

Food Composition

We need to remember that the right diet plan isn’t actually a diet plan at all. It is a lifestyle choice to eat healthy and exercise regularly. Your body needs this to function at its peak levels. Your body also needs Protein, carbs and fats along with vitamins and minerals. These are found in healthy food choices.

Remember the key to a healthy diet is balance, it also the key to a healthy lifestyle.
